Life unplugged

Do you remember the last time you went out with your group of friends or colleagues, shared a laugh, hugged them and made plans for an outing? Did you ever think maybe this is the last time before a  long, uncertain pause follows up. Also, the last time you enjoyed going out to gorge on the street food and thought maybe I'll come back tomorrow to try the other dishes which look tempting. A simple joy ride, a stroll or drive through the town, everything of it looks far fetched right now. Well, the joy of small things is almost never noticed and this lock-down is an irrefutable evidence of the same!

This fall-out was absolutely inevitable and as they say revenge is a dish best served cold, our karma was dished out hot out of the pan. The innumerable, horrendous scarring of the planet we did in the last few decades is unfathomable. If nature decided to be vitriolic with its bashing, we ourselves are  to be blamed. A species which shares the planet with several other million and prides itself on being the most intelligent amongst all, is in reality a nuisance causing pest to this planet with its burgeoning population hoarding on more than half the resources of the planet for itself. In hindsight, we've been the pandemic all along and the novel virus is just a way to clean-up some of this mess. For it is clear now that without human intervention, nature has the ability to re-surge to its full glory and in fact thrive, which our smart brainy wizards thought to be otherwise.

But not everything is gloom and doom, just the way the ecology is getting restored worldwide, so are we. The truth is we're all broken and that's how the light gets in. Isn't it? This pause from the chaotic and frivolous world broke down the rat race and we all went back to recharging our mind and souls amidst the people close to us; spending quality times with our family, something a lot of us were struggling to make time for. A lot of bonding sessions over silly banter, games, house hold chores, reminiscing childhood stories and making the best of home cooked meals - living organic and being happy! Something which we had all forgotten in a while and given away under the pretext of adulthood.

Besides the planet healing, this is also the time to recuperate and strengthen our relationships with family, neighbours, pets, siblings; indulge in hobbies, go an extra mile ahead towards self-love. Realise the fact that we have grown up from a toddler to an adult and life has just paced us into doing things. Reflect on life and have healthy thoughts about our role and existence in this big jig saw puzzle. Appreciate the complexity and enormosity of life for we might never have again such time exclusively to ourselves. I'm sure once this monstrosity is over, we will all grow a bit wiser, a little less self-loathing and kind towards every gesture, emotion and life in every form.

In such testing times, I ask everyone to be indoors and practice all the safety measures. I pray that you are safe and sound and have a joyous, productive and fulfilling lock-down. We're all one big family - Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and as one unit this too shall pass!

To whiplash this to an end, I'd quote Albus Dumbledore "But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."

See you on the brighter side of the world!
