The fear of unknown
When was the last time you took a leap of faith and surrendered yourselves to the universe conspiring to navigate you?
Those of you who have dived in oceans might know that there is always terror of abyss, a point wherein the light stops penetrating and its just dark inside, we have the fear of unknown. We don't know what to expect and yet we do fear; fear of massive sea creatures, about losing our way or just the unfathomable things (thanks hollywood). The fact that the horror resides mostly in the mind and it has no relevance to the actual level of threat should speak volumes on how our mind is always in a precarious state of being sold off to the devil.
Fear shapes up our decisions early on in life and builds resistance to try anything new "Hey but what if it ends up bad?". They say never settle in your 20s, perhaps the most dynamic phase of your life, many things start shaping up at this age, may it be academically, professionally or personally. Yet I see many of the people I know becoming rigid early on in life, the fear psychosis creeping up greatly. The inertia to shift to a different city, change of job, change your stream of profession, get out from a toxic relationship, to ask someone out or simply settling in for less when you deserve more. To quote Chris Martin of Coldplay "But if you never try, you'll never know just what you're worth"
Isn't it the uncertainty of life which makes it more appealing? If we knew when we were to get a surprise from a loved one, the entire thrill of it would be lost and similarly if we knew about the mishaps due in our life we'd be living in perpetual fright. We over plan zealously for so many things in life and get upset when it doesn't work out the same way rather than being flexible and open to the opportunities we close unknowingly. This pandemic is just an example of the same, no person, no government ever planned for it, well except one (what is life without stirring up a bit of controversy), but here we are all in it, fearing the unknown entity. But then again, only the ones who adapt to it and get on with it as the way of life for seemingly stark future will thrive.
Just as we say there is light at the end of tunnel, there is hope and positive energies behind every risk you take, if not a gift, a learning which will eventually turn into a gift. We need to shake off our pre-conceived notions of things and have the fearlessness and curiosity of a child which knows no bounds and is happy at every insignificant thing.
To sync up with this note and to get on with your Sunday jam here is a song by John Mayer
Gravity is working against me
And gravity wants to bring me down
Oh, I'll never known what makes this man
With all the love that his heart can stand
Dream of ways to throw it all away
Stay strong. Stay safe. Evolve.
